Since the nineties, the leaders of civil society organizations in Yemen have supported the feminist movement and interventions that support the empowerment of Yemeni women, and the experiences and the models were plenty and diverse, which are still working generously so far within the framework of humanitarian work.

An idea came from 12 Yemeni women-led civil society organizations to step toward in developing the efforts of those institutions and associations and achieving the dream of cooperation and integrated teamwork.  Establishing the first network that brings together all Yemeni women’s civil society organizations with the hope to harness their cumulative experience to intensify the impact and accelerate the process of change in Yemeni society following the crises that Yemen is going through, especially with the widening gap of funding and developmental that occurred due to the conflict, and to establish a non-governmental national identity for all Yemeni women and support women-run initiatives through the Yemeni Woman Lead Network (YWLN).

According to Law No. 1 of 2001, Article 59:  NGOs and institutions have the right to establish among themselves unions at the governorate level and specific unions at the level of their geographical scope or at the level of the Republic and shall have legal personality in a way that guarantees them the freedom to voluntarily join or withdraw.   located within the scope of the same governorate of any kind or activity, while  the qualitative union consists  of associations  and civil institutions located within the scope of the  same governorate or at the level of the Republic that seek or aim to achieve a specific joint activity in a specific field, and joining the union is a request  submitted by the association or institution to  the union, and  the  union may reject the  request when  the conditions are available Accession, and the  Executive Regulations shall specify the  procedures and conditions for the establishment and formation of the Union.”

Since 2022 the preparations for the YWLN is ongoing, which was announced on International Women’s Day, corresponding to March 8, 2023, and the procedures are in pursuit to obtain an official permit from the government to practice its activities, and preparing the internal system and regulations, designing promotional campaigns, Fund-Raising and networking with other community organizations on a national and international basis.
